British radical cleric Anjem Choudary penned an opinion piece on Thursday regarding the Paris terrorist attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
“People know the consequences: Opposing view,” was published in USA Today on Thursday while French authorities looked for brothers Brothers Said and Chérif Kouachi, the prime suspects in the attack, which left 12 dead.
“Contrary to popular misconception, Islam does not mean peace but rather means submission to the commands of Allah alone. Therefore, Muslims do not believe in the concept of freedom of expression, as their speech and actions are determined by divine revelation and not based on people’s desires,” Mr. Choudary wrote, the newspaper reported.
Within hours of publication, the piece became one of Facebook’s top trending stories.
“In an increasingly unstable and insecure world, the potential consequences of insulting the Messenger Muhammad are known to Muslims and non-Muslims alike,” the cleric added.
Mr. Choudary is a supporter of Shariah Law and the establishment of a caliphate in the Middle East.

On Wednesday he tweeted: “If freedom of expression can be sacrificed for criminalising [sic] incitement & hatred, Why not for insulting the Prophet of Allah?”
