NEW YORK (AP) - Several hundred people gathered in Manhattan’s Union Square to show their support for the victims of the attack on a satirical Paris newspaper that caricatured the Prophet Muhammad.
The mourners Wednesday night chanted “We are not afraid” and held signs in English and French saying “We are Charlie.” They also lit candles at a makeshift memorial to the victims.
Masked gunmen stormed the office of the weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, killing 12 people before escaping. It is France’s deadliest terror attack in at least two decades.
Charlie Hebdo has been repeatedly threatened for its caricatures of the Islamic prophet and other controversial sketches.
