Sen. Don Barrington from Oklahoma has brought forth an amendment that would, if passed, ban the public wearing of clothing that conceals or disguises the wearer — including hoodies.
Oklahoma already has a law that prohibits the wearing of a “mask, hood or covering, which conceals the identity of the wearer during the commission of a crime, or for the purpose of coercion, intimidation or harassment,” Senate Bill 13 states.
But Mr. Barrington’s proposal would add to that.
His amendment would make it unlawful for anyone “to intentionally conceal his or her identity in a public place by means of a robe, mask or other disguise,” the text states.
Why?
His bill states that it is “immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety” and that “an emergency is hereby declared to exist.”
ABC 7, which said that Mr. Barrington’s measure would include hoodies, reported also that violators would have to pay a $500 fine.
