Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is headed back to Iowa this week for a set of closed-door meetings with religious leaders in the early presidential state.
The Des Moines Register reported that the Tuesday meetings in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids were organized by the American Renewal Project, which is also behind a Jan. 24 prayer gathering in Louisiana that will preclude Mr. Jindal from attending GOP Rep. Steve King’s Iowa Freedom Summit — one of the unofficial kick-off events of the 2016 GOP presidential nominating contest.
Should Mr. Jindal ultimately decide to run for president, he could face serious competition for the influential evangelical Christian vote from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who announced over the weekend he would be leaving his job at Fox News as he weighs a presidential bid, as well as potential candidates like Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania.
