A group of protesters going by the Twitter name of “#BlackBrunchNYC” stormed into a range of New York City restaurants to voice their objections to police shootings of blacks and draw attention to their core message — that they’re not going to take it any more.
The group targeted the brunch-time crowds and went to door-to-door in select downtown city spots, busting into diners’ conversations with loud pronouncements of the names of blacks who’ve been shot and killed by police during altercations — and then outing via Twitter photos and critical messages those who seemed to give less-than-interested reactions, Mediaite reported.
One photo posted by a Twitter user with the handle Das Racist showed a man at a table with a couple of others simply sipping coffee while the protesters ringed him, and the accompanying text read: “Black people are dying *white dude sips coffee* #blackbrunchnyc #BlackLivesMatter.”
Another shows a protester with arm raised in the middle of a restaurant, reading off his list, and that accompanying Twitter text said: “Reading names of New Yorkers killed by police at Barking dog #BlackBrunchNYC,” Mediaite reported.
And still one more photo shows a few men seated at a table, watching the line of protesters file by — arms raised with a fisted show of solidarity — and the accompanying text: “ATTN WHITE Man, I have no guilt disturbing your brunch. Its YOU that has no right to be here. #blackbrunchnyc.”
A couple more tweets from the protest group read, “We interrupt your brunch time to let you know there is a war on Black lives. We will not stay silent,” and “We’re approaching our last brunch spot! Interrupting white supremacy one brunch at a time.”
