Rush Limbaugh: WaPo article on Mitt Romney home is case of ‘class envy’

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh came out swinging against a Washington Post piece that invited readers to compare the size of their homes to Mitt Romney’s — but failed to mention the similarly lush residences of leading Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Mr. Limbaugh blasted The Post article — titled “How big is Mitt Romney’s California house? Here, compare it to yours” — during his Thursday broadcast, calling it a case of “class envy.”

“The Washington Post has a piece on Mitt Romney’s house … and how big it is,” Mr. Limbaugh said. “It’s on the website and you can plug in the square footage of your domicile, you condo, your apartment and that will be superimposed over the floor plan of Romney’s house, which is about 23,000 square feet.

“How about the Clintons’ mansions? How about the Kennedy compound? How about all the places Obama rents and stays and where he lives? … Why Romney? I mean, it’s classic … this is how this class envy stuff works,” he said. “It’s just ridiculous … Man, they’re savaging Mitt Romney again.”

Mr. Limbaugh also called the fact that Mr. Romney has more than one home “no big whoop,” since he’s “earned the money” to support that lifestyle.

“They would never, ever endeavor to have people compare the size of their homes with where a wealthy Democrat lives,” he said. “How about the combined square footage of the Clinton estates? They got a place in Georgetown; they got a place in Chappaqua.”
