Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney leads a host of other potential 2016 Republican contenders in a new poll and was reportedly set to provide supporters a Friday update on his thinking on a potential run.
Twenty-one percent of Republicans said they’d like to see Mr. Romney as their presidential nominee, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky at 11 percent apiece and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 10 percent, according to the Fox News poll.
Next is retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 9 percent, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 8 percent, and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 5 percent. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry were at 4 percent apiece.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was at 2 percent, followed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina at 1 percent apiece.
Bloomberg reported that Mr. Romney was planning a Friday morning conference call to update supporters on his plans and that encouraging polling on the 2016 field is one factor pushing him in the direction of another run.
