George Zimmerman — the Florida homeowner who made national headlines for shooting and killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin — will not be charged with aggravated assault stemming from a Jan. 9 incident after all.

State Attorney Phil Archer announced Friday that his office is dropping its case against Mr. Zimmerman, who was accused of throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend, ClickOrlando.com reported.

“While it is clear that the officers had probably cause to arrest Mr. Zimmerman, which was affirmed by the circuit court judge at initial appearances, the subsequent recantation by the victim of her initial statement along with new documents provided by the victim and her attorney precludes my office from proceeding further,” said Mr. Archer in the media outlet.

The State Attorney’s Office said the woman changed her mind and said that Mr. Zimmerman didn’t throw a bottle at her, that she was never in fear for her safety or life and that she didn’t want to pursue charges, ClickOrlando.com said.

Mr. Zimmerman was acquitted in 2012 of second-degree murder in the killing of Trayvon.
