A pair of luxury personal jets owned by Elvis Presley are up for auction an are expected to fetch between $10 million and $15 million.
The jets, “Lisa Marie” and “Hound Dog II” were personally designed by the King of Rock and Roll. One of the jets is complete with a gilded wash basin and luxurious sleeping cabin.
The high-flying rock and roll trophies will be up for sale in a sealed-bid auction, Julien’s Auctions told Reuters Friday.
But whoever dishes out the cash for the planes wont be able to fly them. They are no longer airworthy according to the Beverly Hills, California auction house. The jets have been on display for the past three decades at Graceland, Presley’s famous estate in Memphis, Tenn.
Presley purchased “Lisa Marie,” a Convair 880 jet, from Delta Air Line in 1975, just two years before his death at age 42 for $300,000, Reuters reported.
The plane is painted red, white and blue with his motto “TCB” — “Takin’ Care of business” printed on the tail.
He bought the “Hound Dog II,” and eight-to-ten passenger Lockheed Jetstar in the same year for $900,000 while waiting for refurbishments on the “Lisa Marie” which was fitted with a penthouse bedroom, executive conference room, bar and videotape system linked to four TVs, according to Reuters.
The person who purchases the jets will have the option to purchase several acres of land adjacent to Graceland to display the jets, independent of the Presley museum.
