First lady Michelle Obama received a thumbs-up from an ideological opposite — Sen. Ted Cruz, darling of the tea party crowd — for her refusal to don a headscarf in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Cruz tweeted, Newsmax reported: “Kudos to @FLOTUS for standing up for women & refusing to wear Sharia-mandated head-scarf in Saudi Arabia. Nicely done.”

His Twitter cheer comes on the heels of widespread criticism shot the first lady’s way for her refusal to don the head gear. The Washington Post reported that more than 1,500 tweets from the Muslim world contained a negative hashtag that translated from Arabic to English to #Michelle_Obama_unveiled, along with accompanying messages that rebuked her decision to go without a headscarf.

One poster pointed out, for example, that Mrs. Obama word a headscarf in Indonesia — but why not in Saudi Arabia?
