Hollywood’s Julianne Moore — who most recently played the character of Sarah Palin in “Game Change,” the 2012 HBO movie — said her mother’s death in 2009 solidified one world view: God does not exist.
“I learned when my mother died five years ago that there is no ’there’ there,” she told the Hollywood Reporter. “Structure — it’s all imposed. We impose order and narrative on everything in order to understand it. Otherwise, there’s nothing but chaos.”
God is not directing peoples’ paths, she said, The Blaze reported.
“The idea that you’re the center of your own narrative and that you can create your life is a great idea,” Ms. Moore said in the news interview. “I totally believe it. I’ve been really lucky, but I feel I’ve completely created my own life.”
Ms. Moore, 54, is the daughter of an Army helicopter pilot and paratrooper, and she spent her youthful years on the move.
in a previous interview on “Inside the Actor’s Studio” in 2002, Ms. Moore was asked what she would say to God when she met him at the gates of Heaven — and her response suggested her atheistic views were shaped way before her mother’s death.
“Well, I guess you were wrong. I do exist,” she quipped.
