Russia warned the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on Thursday that the West’s continued support of Kiev may lead to a “big catastrophe” in the region.
Russia’s envoy to the European security watchdog called Ukraine’s leadership the “party of war” that is sending the world on a dangerous geopolitical course.
“I would like to appeal to the states that have influence on Kiev’s leadership, most of all to Washington. […] Only a big catastrophe can result from such developments,” Andrei Kelin told OSCE, Reuters reported.
Mr. Kelin’s warning came just one day after Radio Free Liberty Radio Europe reported that the EU was drafting new sanctions on Moscow that may designate pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine as terrorists.
“It’s time to stop covering [Kiev’s] inhuman actions. It is unacceptable to push [them] toward the continuation of war in eastern Ukraine,” the Russian envoy added, Reuters reported.
Moscow denies that it has supported pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk and Luhansk with weaponry.
