Conservative rock star Ted Nugent slammed back hard at Bryant Gumbel over comments the HBO “Real Sports” host made about the National Rifle Association, characterizing him as a liar and a hater and saying that if he wanted to know the real truth about the gun group’s membership, he should do some actual research.

“Mr. Gumbel is free to wallow in his ignorance, hate and lies that the NRA are pigs and somehow responsible for criminal violence,” Mr. Nugent wrote in an op-ed for The Daily Caller. “However, if he ever decides to be objective, do a little research, be honest and takes the time to assess the underlying cause for the gun-related mayhem occurring in our urban areas, I’m sure he’ll point his outrage at a different target than the NRA.”

Mr. Nugent also said the real root of violence in communities around the nation was due to a breakdown of the family.

Mr. Gumbel said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine that the NRA was a terrible group. His actual comments: “I think they’re pigs. I think they don’t care about human life. There are few things I hate more than the NRA. I mean truly. I think they are a curse upon the American landscape.”
