TV’s Bill Nye “the Science Guy” cut a video spot for Funny or Die to test the deflation rate of footballs in various temperatures, veering at one point to discuss what he called as a genuine issue — and dropping an F-bomb in the process.

Mr. Nye, who’s made a name for himself in part by making science fun for students and teaching scientific principles to school-age children, has been adamant in recent months about the human-induced aspects of climate change. During the NFL-inspired deflation experiment, he stuffed a bunch of footballs in a refrigerator — then tackled another subject while he waited.

“While we have a few minutes here, I’d like to talk about something else — climate change,” he said in the video. “While we’re all obsessed with Deflategate, let’s keep in mind that there’s something about which you should give a [f-word]. Yes, like [New England Patriots quarterback] Tom Brady, the world is getting hotter and hotter because we humans are pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.”

Mr. Nye suggested viewers should take political action to push policies that address the environmental issue.

“You should vote for congressmen and senators that appreciate the threat of climate change and the rate at which the world is getting warmer, so that we can preserve the Earth for humankind for generations to come,” he said in the video.
