DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Terry Branstad has been transported by ambulance to a hospital after his spokesman says he fell ill at an event at a Des Moines suburb.

Spokesman Jimmy Centers says Branstad required assistance Monday at an event at DuPont Pioneer in Johnston. He has been sent to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Centers says Branstad was conscious during the ambulance ride.

He says the governor has been fighting the flu.
