The Church of England will end its 500-year-old ban on female bishops by consecrating the Rev. Libby Lane at a Monday service.
She will be the next Bishop of Stockport, The Associated Press reported.
Ms. Lane said of the consecration that she was perhaps “the first, but I won’t be the only,” AP reported.
Ms. Lane is a saxophone player and soccer fan, and was an ordained Church of England priest — one of the first — in 1994. Her husband is also a priest, AP reported.
