Former President Bill Clinton has been fingered as the reason for the holdup of Martin Scorsese’s release of his years-in-the-making documentary on the famous first family.
The movie, which was once slated for likely release in the time frame of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s probable presidential run, is partially finished, The New York Times reported.
Its completion and release has stalled, however, because of disagreements about final cut control, project insiders told The New York Times.
Much of the movie was shot in the last couple years, when Mr. Clinton was showcased in a positive light during philanthropic visits to Africa. But Mr. Clinton has since demanded more control over the interview questions, The New York Times reported.
And he also wants what Mr. Scorsese won’t give — input over the final version that’s released for public viewing, The New York Times said.
A spokesman for Mr. Clinton denied the reason for the film’s delay, calling the claims of pressure from the former president “inaccurate,” The New York Times said. Mr. Scorsese’s spokespeople declined comment.
HBO, meanwhile, said of the movie: “It’s not happening soon, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen.”
