For the second consecutive season, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall will be an Eastern Conference All-Star. This year, however, he has moved into the starting lineup.
Wall will join Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry, Cleveland Cavaliers small forward LeBron James, New York Knicks guard/forward Carmelo Anthony and Chicago Bulls center Pau Gasol in the starting lineup.
Wall led all Eastern Conference backcourt players in votes, finishing with 886,368. He is the 11th player in franchise history to earn an All-Star start (and the first starter since Gilbert Arenas was voted in by the fans in 2007) and is the 28th player in franchise history to make the All-Star team.
“I am honored to be named as a starter by the fans and will be proud to represent them at All-Star Weekend,” Wall said in a statement. “Their votes represent the hard work that my teammates, our coaches and the entire organization have put in so far this season and the improvement we’ve had as a team.”
Wizards center Marcin Gortat finished fourth among frontcourt players, receiving more votes than Miami’s Chris Bosh and Cleveland’s Kevin Love.
The Western Conference starters include Golden State point guard Stephen Curry — who led all players in votes — Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin and Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol.
Both lineups were selected by a fan vote, via an all-digital format this season.
The NBA All-Star game is Sunday, Feb. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
