Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered her best impression of Vladimir Putin during a talk in Canada, adopting her take of the Russian leader’s accent and demeanor in a fantasy scenario: What would he say to claiming the presidency again?
The mocking came after Mrs. Clinton was asked about an outcome if she “decided to be leader of the United States,” and then the question was altered to reflect constitutional realities — if she actually ran for that role, “because there is a process,” said the host of the event, sponsored by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, The Hill reported.
“Yes, there is a process,” Mrs. Clinton said in the video which is now on YouTube. “It’s not like Putin. I mean, you can imagine the conversation with Putin.”
So she did — verbally. And she did it with her best English-speaking, Russian-language accent.
“You know he was prime minister after he was president and then one day he says, ’Vladimir, do you think you’d like to be president again?’ ’I think I would actually. Why don’t we just go announce it. We’ll tell Dmitry [Medvedev] he can be prime minister,’” she said in the video.
And Mr. Putin’s imagined response, in English with a manly Russian accent?
“Excellent, excellent idea,” Mrs. Clinton said, finishing the scenario by reiterating the existence of America’s “process” of election.
