Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced Wednesday he will be leading a trade mission to London next month — one day after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s office offered details about Mr. Christie’s own trip to the U.K. in the coming weeks.
The jaunts come as potential GOP hopefuls try to shore up their foreign policy credentials as they prepare to potentially face off against former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2016 presidential contest; Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was in London earlier this week as part of an overseas trip.
Mr. Walker’s trip, scheduled for Feb. 9-13, will “focus solely on attracting direct foreign investment” to Wisconsin, according to his office.
“Wisconsin companies already have great success exporting their goods and services overseas, and that success has helped grow the state’s economy,” the Wisconsin governor said in a statement. “Attracting foreign investment is the logical next step of expanding on that international success.”
Mr. Christie’s official visit, scheduled for Feb. 1-3, will likewise include meetings with various business leaders and government officials.
