Michael Davidson, a prominent heart surgeon at one of the nation’s best-known hospitals — Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston — was shot by a gunman while at work.
The gunman, 55-year-old Stephen Pasceri of Millbury, Massachusetts, then turned the firearm on himself. Davidson was rushed to the emergency room but died shortly after, the Wall Street Journal reported.
“Dr. Davidson was a wonderful and inspiring cardiac surgeon who devoted his career to saving lives and improving the quality of life of every patient he cared for,” the hospital said in a statement, the Wall Street Journal reported. “It is truly devastating that his own life was taken in this horrible manner.”
Investigators say Pasceri walked into the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center and asked to speak with Davidson. Davidson was then shot twice in the chest and died hours later; Pasceri’s body was found in an examination room.
“It’s leading us to believe that there was something in the past that upset this guy, and he came in looking for this particular doctor,” said Boston Police Chief William Evans, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Fox News said Davidson once operated on Pasceri’s mother, and she died.
