Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, 84, is going into the marijuana business, announcing just this week that he’s en route to taking over the leadership role in Kush, a company that creates and markets products from cannabis.

Among Kush’s key products: “Kubby,” a marijuana-based throat lozenge, The Hill reported.

Mr. Gravel, who sought the presidency in 2008 and who served in the Senate from 1969 and 1981, has been an outspoken critic of the U.S. war on drugs for years.

“We need to decriminalize drugs and treat them as a health problem,” he said during a recent interview with Reuters. “You should go see a doctor on the subject, not a sheriff, a police officer or a warden.”

Mr. Gravel, who was a Democrat and then a Libertarian, actually served on the Cannabis Sativa Inc. board of directors before taking the leadership position at Kush, a subsidiary of the company, The Hill reported.
