A Florida man, 23, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after his brother called 911 to report the beheading of their mother, police said.

Police responding to the home found the headless body of Maria Suarez-Cassagne outside, The Associated Press reported. Christian Jose Gomez was arrested; his brother, Mario Gomez, had placed the call to 911, AP said.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtiere said Mr. Gomez had actually planned to kill his mother for at least two days.

The suspect was angry that his mother wanted him to move boxes in their house and that he was actually jealous of the attention she showered on his 27-year-old brother, Sheriff Gualtiere said, AP reported.

He’s accused of attacking his mother in the garage with an ax, cutting off her head, dragging the remains to the garbage cans and fleeing the scene, AP reported.

Mr. Gomez was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, AP said.
