Iran’s government shut down the Mardom-e Emrooz newspaper after editors published a quote from Hollywood’s George Clooney saying, “I am Charlie,” a reference to the terrorist attacks in Paris on the satirical newspaper.

The prosecutor demanded the news outlet close for supporting “offensive media,” like Mr. Clooney’s reference to the Charlie Hebdo cartoon of the prophet Mohammad, the local Tasnim reported.

Iran has previously referred to the Charlie Hebdo publication as insulting to those of the Muslim faith, Bloomberg reported.

The Mardom-e Emrooz newspaper quoted Mr. Clooney at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony on Jan. 11.
