The foreign policy chief for the European Union said the bloc is kicking off an appeal against a court ruling that ordered Hamas off the terror list — for a technicality.
Federica Mogherini said the council of ministers is going to challenge the EU court’s ruling and request the decision be overturned, The Associated Press reported. The court ruled on Dec. 17 that the naming of Hamas as a terror group was based solely on media reports and that authorities hadn’t done enough independent research to conclude justifying the listing.
Hamas has been on the EU terror list since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on U.S. soil. The group has contested its listing.
