Pope Francis said Thursday that climate change is due primarily from human activities.
“I don’t know if it is all [mankind’s] fault, but the majority is,” he said to reporters while aboard a plane from Sri Lanka to Manila, Reuters reported. “For the most part, it is man who continuously slaps down nature.”
He also said he was almost finished with his long-awaited encyclical on the environment and that he planned for it to be published in June, in plenty of time for the United Nations climate meeting in Paris in November.
“We have, in a sense, lorded it over nature, over Sister Earth, over Mother Earth. I think man has gone too far,” the pope said. “Thank God today there are voices that are speaking out about this.”
