A gun-carrying customer is being hailed a hero after reportedly thwarting a robbery Saturday at a Houston restaurant.

Koy Sam and his wife just opened the K&S Seafood Bar and Grill in the 7000 block of North Gessner Road two months ago. It was closing time, just after 8 p.m. Saturday, when two armed teens walked in, a local CBS affiliate reported.

“All of a sudden my wife ran back (to the kitchen) panicking,” Mr. Sam told the station.

The two teens came into the kitchen, put a gun to Mr. Sam’s head, and demanded money, he said. After realizing the cash wasn’t kept in the kitchen, they ran toward the register.

That’s when “Mike,” a K&S regular, reportedly pulled out his 9 millimeter and took control of the situation. According to the police report, “Mike” detained one of the suspects “on the floor at gunpoint” until police arrived, a local Fox affiliate reported.

The other teen fled, with “Mike” firing a shot through the storefront’s window. It was not clear if the second suspect was hit.

“He (Mike) was amazing,” Mr. Sam told the CBS affiliate. “He absolutely kept us all calm, made sure everything was OK.”

The 15-year-old who was arrested is facing a juvenile charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. The second suspect has not been caught.

The incident has reportedly made K&S a hotspot, with conservative radio hosts urging gun rights activists to frequent the new establishment.

Customer Thomas Bazan even goes door to door handing out fliers for K&S, he told the CBS affiliate. His wife said the story has inspired her to get her concealed weapons license.

“There’s wickedness and evil,” Mr. Bazan said. “And we need to stand up against it and fight back.”

“We have the best customers,” Mr. Sam told the station. “The main thing is we have neighborhood support, and that’s what we need. We are blessed.”
