The Republican National Committee’s executive committee has voted in closed session to censure Michigan RNC member Dave Agema, who has been widely denounced as having espoused racist views, The Washington Times has learned.
Without objection, the members voted Wednesday to urge the Michigan GOP “to investigate a means to have the state party remove him” from office.
Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus has repeatedly asked Mr. Agema to remove himself from the national committee.
The 168-member RNC is comprised of a national committeeman and woman elected by the central committee of each of the 50 states and five U.S. territories. The RNC is also made up of state GOP chairmen who are elected by the central committees of each state and territory.
The RNC, the GOP’s national governing body, has no power to remove members because they are elected by each state’s committees.
Mr. Agema posted strongly worded anti-homosexual sentiments on Facebook and posted an article from a magazine condemned for espousing white supremacy.
Freedom of expression was not conisdered an issue in the move by the executive committee because the RNC, like the Democratic National Committee, is an avowedly partisan organization whse members are expected to espouse the group’s core principles and values.
Both the RNC and the DNC consider themselves as explicitly opposed to claims by any race as being superior to other races.
