Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney leads a pack of possible 2016 GOP presidential contenders in a new poll of 404 registered Republican voters in Iowa, home of the first-in-the-nation caucuses.
Mr. Romney, who has recently dipped his toes in the water for a possible third bid at the White House, leads with 21 percent in the Townhall/Gravis poll conducted Jan. 5-7 — a few days before he reportedly told a group of donors that he’s considering another run.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is next at 14 percent, followed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 10 percent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 9 percent, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky at 8 percent, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 7 percent, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 5 percent apiece, and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 4 percent.
Mr. Ryan, the chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, said this week he is not going to run for president in 2016.
The poll has an error rate of 3 percent.
