New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s allies are the process of setting up a leadership PAC ahead of a possible presidential run by Mr. Christie in 2016, according to reports.
The PAC would not start operating before Mr. Christie’s scheduled attendance at the Jan. 21 swearing-in of Maryland Gov.-elect Larry Hogan, one of several surprise victors in a successful 2014 election cycle that Mr. Christie oversaw as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, according to The New York Times, which first reported on the PAC.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush set up his own leadership PAC last week as he explores a possible bid for the presidency in 2016. Mr. Bush’s early moves could kick the fundraising arms race into high gear soon for potential contenders.
Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, seen as part of the more establishment wing of the GOP along with Republicans like Mr. Bush and Mr. Christie, recently told donors he’s thinking about another run for the White House as well.
