Three possible GOP presidential contenders in 2016 are scheduled to provide updates and lay out their respective visions for their home states Tuesday.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker are all scheduled to deliver their individual State of the State addresses as the Republican governors, particularly Mr. Christie and Mr. Walker, face the prospect of laying the groundwork for possible presidential runs while tending to issues at home as well.
Governors frequently make the case that a presidential candidate who comes from outside of Washington would be more suited to tackle problems in D.C.; several U.S. senators are seriously weighing bids as well, notably Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida.
Mr. Walker won a tough re-election campaign last year and Mr. Christie oversaw a hugely successful season for the Republican Governors Association.
Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican and the 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee, said Monday he would not be running for president in 2016, clearing one possible intrastate rival out of Mr. Walker’s way as he weighs a possible bid.
Mr. Christie is scheduled to speak at 2 p.m., Mr. Pence at 7 p.m. and Mr. Walker at 8 p.m. (EST).
