President Obama is traveling to Indiana Friday to build support for his economic agenda, including an initiative for government-paid tuition for community college students.
Mr. Obama will visit Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, the nation’s largest statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students. A White House official said the president will discuss “the importance of middle-class economics,” including proposals to expand child care and early childhood education.
The White House says the cost of Mr. Obama’s tuition proposal would be $60 billion over 10 years.
The White House is billing the event as bipartisan. The president will be joined by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and former Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar, both Republicans; and Sen. Joe Donnelly and Rep. Andre Carson, both Indiana Democrats.
