Already an All-Star starter, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall will also take part in the NBA Skills Challenge Feb. 14 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
Wall will compete against Trey Burke (Utah Jazz), Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls), Michael Carter-Williams (Philadelphia 76ers), Brandon Knight (Milwaukee Bucks), Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors), Jeff Teague (Atlanta Hawks) and Isaiah Thomas (Phoenix Suns) in a head-to-head, bracket-style tournament format for the first time. The contest is a three-round obstacle course competition that tests dribbling, passing, agility and shooting skills. Wall’s first-round opponent will be the diminutive Thomas.
Wall leads the NBA in assists per game at 10.2 and total assists with 508. He also leads guards in the NBA with 27 double-doubles. With 508 assists through the first 50 games of this season, Wall became the second player in franchise history to reach 500-plus assists in 50 games (Rod Strickland). Wall also became the first player in the NBA to reach 500 assists this season.
Wall will be participating in the Skills Challenge for the third time in his five-year career.
