Republicans in Congress issued a fiery message to Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings saying the Floridian ought to apologize for blasting Texas as a “crazy state” during a recent Rules Committee hearing.
Several GOP lawmakers wrote to Mr. Hastings: “Don’t mess with Texas,” PJ Media reported. They also demanded he apologize to the citizens of Texas for his public remarks.
But the apology isn’t likely to come any time soon.
Mr. Hastings referenced Texas while talking with Texan lawmaker Michael Burgess, and said, “which I think it a crazy state to begin with, and I mean it just as I said it.”
Mr. Burgess jumped on Mr. Hastings remarks and accused him of making “a very defamatory comment about my state, and I will not stand here and listen to it,” he said, PJ Media reported.
Mr. Burgess then demanded an apology — and Mr. Hastings said no.
“[It will be] until hell freezes over for me to say anything in an apology,” Mr. Hastings said, The Blaze reported.
