Jordan’s King Abdullah II reportedly quoted Clint Eastwood from the 1992 film “Unforgiven” in a meeting with members of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee Tuesday shortly after learning that Islamic State militants had burned a Jordanian pilot alive.
“He said there is going to be retribution like ISIS hasn’t seen,” said Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter Jr., The Washington Examiner reported. “He mentioned ’Unforgiven’ and he mentioned Clint Eastwood, and he actually quoted a part of the movie.”
The Marine Corps veteran wouldn’t say exactly which quote the king recited, but said it was the part where Mr. Eastwood’s character, Bill Munny, describes how he is going to deliver his retribution. The Examiner suggests it may have been the scene where Munny says, “Any man I see out there, I’m gonna kill him. Any son of a bitch takes a shot at me, I’m not only going to kill him, I’m going to kill his wife and all his friends and burn his damn house down.”
“He’s angry,” Mr. Hunter said of the king, the Examiner reported. “They’re starting more sorties tomorrow than they’ve ever had. They’re starting tomorrow. And he said, ’The only problem we’re going to have is running out of fuel and bullets.’
Lt. Muath al-Kasaesbeh, 26, was reportedly torched to death while being filmed Jan. 3 by militants who captured him in December after his plane was shot down near Raqqa, in Syria. Jordan has promised swift retaliation for the murder.
“[King Abdullah’s] ready to get it on,” Mr. Hunter said. “He really is. It reminded me of how we were after 9/11. We were ready to give it to them.”
President Obama was not present at the congregation with the king, but held a separate meeting with him Tuesday in the White House.
