Eighty Monopoly games sold in France will include genuine money — a nod of celebration at the 80th anniversary of the release of the game in the European nation.
One box will have the full replacement of fake to real — for a total of $23,600, or 20,580 euros, Fox News reported. Hasbro, the maker of Monopoly, said the other 79 boxes will have smaller amounts of cash.
The euro notes will be added to select Monopoly games in secret in the small town of Creutzwald, The Associated Press reported. But The Guardian said that the money that’s added in actually makes the game box bigger.
Monopoly, created in the United States after the Great Depression, sells in 111 countries and is available in 43 languages.
