Authorities lifted the White House from lockdown status after bomb team specialists determined a package left unattended at a nearby park was not hazardous.
The suspicious package, discovered in Lafayette Square, which is located across the street from the White House, was found about 7:10 a.m., Fox News reported. District of Columbia police subsequently dispatched experts to the scene and closed nearby streets to drivers.
Secret Service, meanwhile, declared the White House in lockdown mode, Fox News said.
Both park and White House have now been given the all clear.
“No hazardous materials were found,” said the Metropolitan Police Department in a brief statement.
