Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican and one of the most outspoken critics of President Obama’s recent move to normalize U.S.-Cuba relations, is scheduled to preside over a hearing Tuesday on the new U.S. policy changes toward the communist island country.
The hearing, titled “Understanding the Impact of U.S. Policy Changes on Human Rights and Democracy in Cuba,” is scheduled to include testimony from members of the State Department as well as Cuban activists.
Mr. Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, is weighing a run for president in 2016. At least one of his potential GOP rivals, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, has spoken favorably about moving to loosen travel and trade restrictions between the United States and Cuba.
Mr. Rubio chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Western Hemisphere Subcommittee.
