NEW YORK — Phil Greene IV scored a career-high 26 points and Sir’Dominic Pointer had 24 points and eight rebounds as St. John’s beat Georgetown, 81-70, on Saturday.

The victory helped St. John’s (20-9, 9-7 Big East) reach the 20-win plateau in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2000.

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera led Georgetown with 29 points. Mikael Hopkins added 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.

A 3-pointer by Greene and a dunk by Pointer sparked an 11-0 run which gave St. John’s a 16-6 lead with 14:38 left in the half. The Red Storm led by as many as 15 points before taking a 43-32 advantage into the break.

Smith-Rivera hit a 3-pointer to pull Georgetown (18-9, 10-6 Big East) within nine with 17:23 to play, but Greene capped a 7-0 spurt with a 3-pointer and St. John’s led 52-36 just more than two minutes later.

The Hoyas trailed by double digits the rest of the way.
