Khalid al-Fawwaz, a Saudi national and former close aide to Osama bin Laden, has been found guilty of the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in east Africa.
A New York jury deliberated for three days over four conspiracy counts after the monthlong trial.
Al-Fawwaz’s bombings at the Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam embassies killed 224 people. He now faces a life sentence for his crimes, BBC reported Thursday.
U.S. prosecuting lawyer Preet Bharara described Al-Fawwaz as one of Bin Laden’s “original and most trusted lieutenants,” who “played a critical role for al Qaeda in its murderous conspiracy against America,” BBC reported.
