Four students at Wesleyan University in Connecticut were arrested and charged in connection with a drug scare that sent 12 other students to the hospital for suspected MDMA, or “Molly,” overdoses.
Arrested were Eric Lonergan, 21; Zachary Kramer, 21; Andrew Olson, 20; and Rama Agha Al Nakib, 20, Reuters reported.
Middletown Police Chief William McKenna said the four were taken into custody, charged with a variety of drug-related offenses and given bonds between $75,000 and $150,000.
News of the overdosing of 12 students took the nation by surprise. As of Tuesday, two of the students were still recovering in the hospital, Chief McKenna said, Reuters reported.
“This particular batch may have had a mixture of several kinds of designer drug chemicals, making the health risks unpredictable and treatment to combat the effects, complex and problematic,” he said, Reuters reported.
“Molly” is the street name for a pure type of MDMA, the main chemical in the psychoactive drug ecstasy.
