Michael Sam, the former St. Louis Rams recruit who made national headlines as the first openly gay NFL player, is set to become the next contestant on “Dancing With the Stars.”

He’ll compete against singer Patti LaBelle and actress Rumor Willis, with dancing professional Peta Murgatroyd, the New York Post reported.

Mr. Sam tweeted, the New York Post found: “I’m looking forward to getting started with @PetaMargatroyd and winning! Thanks for the support!”

The show, in its 20th season, will premier March 16.
