Islamic State terrorists stormed a number of small villages in northeast Syria and took captive at least 70 Assyrian Christians, two activist groups reported Tuesday.
As many as 100 could have been abducted, Fox News reported, citing Nuri Kino, the leader of an activist group, A Demand for Action, that focuses on tracking religious minorities in the Middle East.
Mr. Kino said he got his information from several first-hand accounts of the abductions, Fox News reported.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said the Christians were kidnapped, but said the number was more like 90, according to Fox News.
Sky News reported heavy fighting in the area — which is near the border of Turkey and Iraq — led to the abductions.
