France has deployed one of its aircraft carriers — the Charles de Gaulle — to the Persian Gulf, the latest in the nation’s efforts to slow the spread of Islamic State terrorists in Iraq.
President Francois Holland said the carrier will work closely with the United States, The Associated Press reported.
Among the coalition participants, France has been the most active and carried out the most airstrikes over Iraq, AP said.
Roughly 2,000 military troops are on board the carrier. Accompanying the carrier are a submarine, an air defense frigate and a British anti-submarine frigate, AP said.
