Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN’s Jim Acosta on Friday that he has been getting death threats since questioning President Obama’s love for America.
Mr. Giuliani said earlier this week that he doesn’t think the president loves the U.S. because he criticizes it so much, has a different worldview than past presidents, and rarely talks about the nation’s inherent strengths.
“I don’t regret making the statement. I believe it. I don’t know if he loves America,” Mr. Giuliani told Mr. Acosta in a phone interview, Mediaite reported Saturday.
CNN was unable to confirm whether or not Mr. Giuliani’s office contacted law enforcement personnel to deal with death threats.
Mr. Acosta reported that Mr. Giuliani did say that the majority of phone calls his office has received regarding the statement have been supportive and that even Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal had called to back him up on his comment.
