As far as happiness goes, Alaskans lead. The latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index gives top billing to former Gov. Sarah Palin’s state of record — and dead last ranking to West Virginia.
This is the sixth time in six years that West Virginia was given the worst happiness ranking in the poll, CNBC reported.
But next to Alaska? That would be Hawaii, then South Dakota, CNBC said. Kentucky, meanwhile, took second-to-last honors — where it’s been listed several times in recent years.
The rankings are based on more than 176,000 telephone calls with residents of all 50 states who cited their satisfaction and health levels in five different categories: purpose, social, financial, community and physical.
Alaska’s been in the top 10 four times in the last seven years.
“They do a lot of the blocking and tackling, as far as taking care of themselves and making good choices, but also demonstrating good holistic well-being in ways that extend beyond the conventional physically wellness,” said Dan Witters, research director of the index.
