Kelvin Cochran, the Atlanta fire chief who was fired after publishing a religious book tied to his Christian faith that included biblical views of homosexuality, filed a suit against the city and Mayor Kasim Reed in federal court.
Attorneys with the Alliance Defending Freedom are representing him, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.
Mr. Reed fired Mr. Cochran in January for what he says was a breach in protocol — the publication of his book, “Who Told You That You Are Naked?” The book contained paragraphs that describe homosexuality as akin to bestiality, as a “sexual perversion,” the newspaper reported.
Some found Mr. Cochran’s views offensive, though others heralded them as brave expressions of his faith.
Mr. Cochran is alleging his firing was discriminatory and violates the First Amendment.
