The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation’s board of directors announced Thursday that suspended NBC news anchor Brian Williams has resigned.
The organization, which the embattled Mr. Williams has been a part of since 2006, works to “perpetuate the Medal of Honor’s legacy through outreach and collaborative efforts,” raise funds, and promote the values and qualities of “courage, sacrifice and patriotism,” its website states.
NBC suspended Mr. Williams for six months after he admitted that his tale of being inside a military helicopter in Iraq that came under enemy fire in 2003 was untrue. The network started looking into a number of other stories since then, including one in which he claimed to have flown around Baghdad with SEAL Team 6.
The organization said that it could not immediately provide details Thursday behind Mr. Williams’ resignation, Stars and Stripes reported.
The newspaper also reached out to Mr. Williams’ attorney, but a reply to its inquiry was not returned prior to publication.
