Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was captured on audio admitting that police by and large focus their patrols on minority neighborhoods because “that’s where all the crime is,” he said during a recent address at the Aspen Institute.
He also said that government officials need to get “guns out of the hands” of minorities to help lower crime rates, The Blaze reported.
“It’s controversial,” he said, The Blaze reported. “But the first thing is all of your — 95 percent of your murders and murderers and murder victims fit one M.O. You can just take the description, Xerox it, and pass it out to all of the cops. They are male, minorities, 15 to 25. That’s true in New York. It’s true in virtually every city in America.”
The Daily Caller first captured the comments on audio and said Mr. Bloomberg’s representatives tried to block the release of the audio.
Mr. Bloomberg then went on, referring to minority males, in the 15- to 25-year-old age range.
“That’s where the real crime is,” he said, The Blaze reported. “You’ve got to get the guns out of the hands of the people that are getting killed. First thing you can do to help that group is to keep them alive.”
He later said, The Daily Caller reported: “So one of the unintended consequences is, people say, ’Oh, my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana that are all minorities.’ Yes, that’s true. Why? Because we put all the cops in the minority neighborhoods. Yes that’s true — why do we do it? Because that’s where all the crime is. And the first thing you can do for people is to stop them getting killed.”
