Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and singing sensation Taylor Swift were seated right next to each other during the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Celebration in New York City — and social media was quick to point to the odd matchup.

The Daily Mail noted that Ms. Taylor, captured by camera, gave off an aura of the movie “Mean Girls,” with a facial expression that suggested one of the show’s famous lines, “You can’t sit with us!” The pop singer has been on record as supportive of President Obama, the Daily Mail said.

And social media, meanwhile, quickly chimed in.

“WAIT A MINUTE. TAYLOR SWIFT IS SITTING NEXT TO SARAH PALIN? #SNL40,” one tweeted, Twitchy reported.

Another: “This is funny because even /sarah palin/ doesn’t want to be stuck sitting next to taylor swift.”

Yet another: “How did Taylor Swift get seated next to Sarah Palin?”

And a fourth: “Most unusual pair ever? Taylor Swift & Sarah Palin sat together in the #SNL40 audience tonight,” Twitchy found.

Lastly: “So. Many. Questions … WHAT. WAS. THIS. CONVERSATION,” another wrote, beneath the photo of Ms. Palin and Ms. Swift, the latter who sat with her arms crossed, eyes looking toward the sky.
